Ken Vandermark, a MacArthur Fellow (1999), is one of the best saxophone & clarinet players playing right now in any genre. As leader or a member, Vandermark has been part of many groups such as The Vandermark 5 (with Jeb Bishop, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Kent Kessler, Dave Rempis), Spaceways Inc. (with Hamid Drake, Nate McBride), Free Fall Trio (with Ingebrigt Håker Flaten & Håvard Wiik), Flying Luttenbachers (with Weasel Walter) and NRG Ensemble, playing in a wide range of genres, namely jazz, free improvisation, funk, rock n roll, noise, et al. A gifted arranger & improviser, Vandermark proves, like his frequent collaborator Nate Wooley on trumpet, that there is still much to be heard & gained from the saxophone & clarinet.
