EASTSIDE SUICIDE: EASTSIDE SUICIDE
(REVIEW BY MIKE FRAME)

YOWWWWWW! This record smokes!! This is exactly the kind of record I am ALWAYS on the hunt for and rarely find. The self titled disc by the EAST SIDE SUICIDES is a classic slab of raunchy, sleazy glam punk--an instant classic. Fuck, this thing is a mutha!! Every single song is a gem, as good as anything you wanna name. This will stack up to Keeping Up With The Joneses or Backstabber Blues with ease. Mind blowing mid tempo toonz, oozing with swagger AND pop hookz galore! There is no best song here because every damn one of em is a classic! I dream about records this good. Great down and dirty guitars, a perfect not-too-busy rhythm section, and a singer with a heapin helpin' of David Jo but a lotta his own charisma and personality.

What is it about the Southwest United States and glam punk?? JEFF DAHL, THE BEAT ANGELS, THE SLASH CITY DAGGERS--you can put these Austin, TX sleaze hounds on that list! They come on like an incredible mixture of the above three, come to think of it. I can think of no higher compliment. A coupla the toonz even remind me of the fantastic JESSE CAMP AND THE 8TH STREET KIDZ, one of the all time underrated combos.

This self titled album is simply perfect, a stunning glam punk masterpiece.

EASTSIDE SUICIDE: EASTSIDE SUICIDE
(by -- Willy Aadnoy (12/28/03))

Austin, TX strikes again! Johnny Thunders lives on through bands like the Eastside Suicides. New York Dolls style glam rock never fails to get my juices flowing and these 10 tunes are no exception. Snotty vocals on top of the Thunders riffs in a mid tempo form and you get the idea. Pink Personality stands out for me with hooks galore as does Booker T. Projects and Bad News for the same reasons. Four of the songs clock in at 4:00 minutes or more without ever seeming overly long. This is a super solid debut on Austin's own Super Secret label. I look forward to more from this band and Austin in general.
